Simulation of the Es ionospheric layer formation by auroral electrons
Description
Numerical solution of spatial two-dimensional system of equations of transfer of ionospheric plasma, composed of five ion types, is used for investigating the role of nonstationary and heterogeneous with repsect to width of electron fluxes in 3-5 keV energy range in formation of sporadic ionization of E-layer of high-latitude ionsphere. It is shown that monoenergy electron fluxes of 1011-1012 m-2Xs-1 value can form the layer of elevated N(e) concentration at ∼120 km altitude. NO+ ions represent the basic component of such Es-layer. The time necessary for formation and disappearance of Es-layer is determined mainly by the rates of chemical reactions of NO+ ion formation and disappearance. The N(e) value in E-layer maximum can exceed by one order the undisturbed value
