EPRI workshop keynote address
Description
This keynote address provides an historical perspective on EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference) control in the nuclear power industry, describing developments from the microprocessor explosion, to crosstalk between cables, to prediction tools and regulations for electrical noise sources. The remainder of the address is an overview of some of the papers to be presented at the workshop. Several sectors of the community faced with EMI-related problems will be represented at the workshop: the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the power utilities, the industrial process-control sector, the military, instrument, and control-device manufacturers, and others. The afternoon session will address the ambient electromagnetic environment and receptors of EMI. The sessions of the second day of the workshop will address details of EMI control in the nuclear industry in general and upgrading to digital instrumentation and control systems in particular
