Synthesis and ion-exchange properties of a semicrystalline magnesium-selective niobium antimonate

Description
Semicrystalline niobium antimonate is shown to be suitable for use as an ion exchanger from 40deg to 300degC. It has a high chemical stability and can be used to separate Mg2+ quantitatively from Sr2+, Ba2+, Hg2+, Al3+, Ga3+, Fe3+, La3+ and Th4+. Mg2+ is eluted with 0.01 M nitric acid and the other ions are eluted with a solution of 2 M nitric acid and 0.25 M ammonium nitrate. The results of X-ray, infrared thermogravimetric and differential-scanning calorimetric studies of the crystalline' sample are presented and discussed
