Fermilab fixed target charm program

Creators

Description

The author discusses two upcoming fixed target experiments at Fermilab, which will provide upwards to 1 million reconstructed events in the charmed systems. The projections for experiment E831, a photoproduction experiment scheduled for 1996 to 1997 time frame, and E781, involving a hadron beam, are discussed in light of earlier fixed target experiments which have yielded charm particle results. These experiments are aimed at precision lifetime measurements for Λc+, Ξc+,0, and Ωc0, and study of semileptonic decays of baryons. They also aim to study D0-bar D0 mixing and suppressed Cabbibo decays, to measure absolute branching ratios, and to study semileptonic decays of D mesons
