Radiological survey of the Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. Erwin Plant burial site
Description
The results of a radiological survey of the burial site on the Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS), Inc. Erwin Plant grounds are presented. This site contains approximately 30 burial pits, into which has been placed a variety of disposable wastes, contaminated with low levels of thorium and uranium, with enrichments ranging from depleted to 97%. Measurements were made to determine if these materials are migrating from the burial pits into the environment, and if so, at what levels. Survey results indicate that contamination is not moving from the pits, and that previous burials of radioactive waste on the site have had little or no effect on the environment
