Design of a pilot cell for strontium-90 extraction by solvent

Description

The design of this plant was undertaken with the object of constructing a pilot apparatus for the study of the separation of the elements contained in fission products. The plant should yield technological information as well as data on the process (efficiency, Kd value, etc.). It is also felt that this plant might serve as a basis for the design of a unit for the production of strontium-90 and rare earths for treating effluent solutions from an irradiated fuel reprocessing plant. The report includes a description of the process and an examination of the safety precautions, the equipment, and the controls, measurements and monitoring and regulating devices. (author)

Abstract (French)

L'etude de cette installation a Me cntreprise dans le but de realiser un appareillage pilote d'etude de separation des elements con tenus dans les produits de fission. Cette installation doit nous donner des renseignements technologiques aussi bien que des precisions sur le procede (rendement, valeur de Kd, etc.). Nous pensons aussi que cet ensemble pourrait eventuellement servir de base pour la conception d'une unite de production de strontium 90 et de terres rares capable de traiter les solutions effiuentes d'une usine de retraitement des combustibles irradies. Le rapport comporte la description du procede et l'etude des securites, de l'appareillage, et des commandes, mesures, controles et regulations. (auteur)
