Longer life for nuclear power plants

Description

Extending the life of nuclear power plants is an important factor in an industry which faces severe restrictions on the building of new plants. One company thinking along these lines is Siemens KWU. In Germany the company has a continuing plant life extension programme that seeks to ensure that an operator is always in a position to assure the regulators that a plant is safe for at least 10 more years. This programme is outlined and explained. (author)
