Inhomogeneities of composition, microstructure and critical currents in elongated melt-textured YBCO

Description

Grain morphology, texture, changes in chemical composition and critical currents along the length of superconductive rod-like samples on the basis of barium-yttrium cuprate obtained through the zonal melting method are studied. The majority of large laminar grains, constituting the main part of the samples volume correspond to YBa2Cu3Ox (phase 123) however large grains of Y2BaCuO5 (phase 211) and phases of mutual intergrowth 123 and 211 were also identified. Disorderly-oriented small grains are represented primarily by Y2BaCuO5 and also by YBa2Cu3Ox and BaCuO2

Abstract (Russian)

Изучены морфология зерен, текстура, изменения химического состава и критических токов вдоль длины сверхпроводящих стержнеобразных образцов на основе купрата бария-иттрия, полученных методом зонной плавки. Состав большинства крупных пластинчатых зерен, составляющих основную часть об''ема образцов, соответствует YBa2Cu3Ox (фаза 123), но были также обнаружены крупные зерна Y2BaCuO5 (фаза 211) и фазы взаимного прорастания 123 и 211. Беспорядочно ориентированные мелкие зерна представлены преимущественно Y2BaCuO5, а также YBa2Cu3Ox и BaCuO2
