Zirconium or zirconium alloy components for nuclear reactors

Description

Zirconium or its alloys used as components in nuclear reactors are firmly bonded to yttrium or rare earth metals or their alloys having a greater hydrogen affinity than zirconium. The hydrogen embrittlement of zirconium is hence reduced and the components have a longer service life. Many possible applications are described. (IHOE)

Abstract (German)

Zirkon oder dessen Legierungen verwendet als Bauelemente in Kernreaktoren werden mit Yttrium oder seltenen Erdmetallen bzw. deren Legierungen, die eine groessere Wasserstoff-Affinitaet als Zirkon haben, fest verbunden. Dadurch wird die Wasserstoff-Versproedung des Zirkon herabgesetzt und laengere Lebensdauer der Bauelemente erreicht. Viele Anwendungsmoeglichkeiten sind beschrieben. (IHOE)
