Change of radiation stability of silver azide by nickel-and cadmium oxides
Creators
Description
Radiolysis of the mixtures of silver azide with nickel and cadmium oxides has been studied. An X-ray tube operating at 150 kV and 2 mA served as an radiation source. The rate of the absorbed dose is the same for AgN3, NiO, and CdO and equals 2.1011 eV/(g.sec). Kinetics of the process has been studied by continuous recording the nitrogen liberated during AgN3 decomposition. The decomposition degree of AgN3 has been determined by chemical analysis on radiolytic silver. It has been established that nickel oxide increases and cadmium oxide decreases the rate of radiolysis of pure silver azide, the effects tending to limits when concentration of the additive is about 10%. The data obtained are discussed from the standpoint of electron transitions on the contact azide-oxide which shift the equilibrium in electron stages of radiolysis
