Optimization of parameters of spherical targets for laser fusion experiments

Description

Similarity-dependence ratios of final plasma parameters on initial parameters of spherical shell targets (radius, thickness of shell), density of thermonuclear substance etc. and laser pulse characteristics (energy and duration) affecting a target have been obtained. Comparative analysis of plasma parameters of gas-filled and cryogenic targets was conducted. Depending on experimental purposes (reaching high compressions or temperatures of plasma) a number of matching schemes of targets and laser pulse parameters ispresented. It is shown that for reaching high densities of laser plasma shells with low spect ratio (ratio of target radius and shell thickness) Asub(s) approximately = 10-20 should be used and for reaching high temperatures-with high aspect ratio Asub(s) >= 102
