Description
The line profile of Balmer beta for neutral hydrogen was observed for Nsub(e)=1015 cm-3, Tsub(e)=1.5 eV and Nsub(e)=5x1014 cm-3, Tsub(e)=0.85 eV. A double-resonance technique was used to discriminate against any molecular or other impurities that may have been filling in the dip at the core of the line. No evidence of any such impurity was found. However, a satellite observed on the red wing of the line profile taken at Nsub(e)=5x1014 cm-3 was shown to be an impurity and not associated with the Balmer-beta line profile. (author)
