The preparation and testing of the multigen: a multiload generator
Description
Existing designs of 99Mo- sup(99m)Tc generators require expensive weekly deliveries to the user of bulky and heavy packing cases. A description is given of the design, operation and testing of a generator which can be re-charged every week for a large number of weeks, and safely milked every day. The design takes advantage of the capability of the columns to absorb much larger quantities of 99Mo than the amount actually used in commercially available generators. The eluates were tested for radionuclidic purity, chemical purity, sterility and apyrogenicity. Problems of waste disposal were reduced, and 99Mo was used more efficiently since about 17% of the original activity remained one week after loading. The disadvantages are that very great care is needed to ensure sterility and apyrogenicity, and a daily check for 99Mo break-through is required. (U.K.)
