Off-shell effects of an energy surface in a pion-nucleus elastic scattering

Description
The optical model with a first-order potential is applied to pion elastic scattering by the nuclei 3He, 4He, 12C, 16O, and 24Mg at energies Tsub(π)=50-250 MeV. The πA-rescattering effects on and off the energy shell are studied. It is shown that a dominant contribution to the elastic scattering comes from the processes in which the intermediate pion is on energy shell
