Creation of hayfields and pastures for cattle in a private sector as an efficient method of reduction of radionuclides in milk

Description

In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was developed and introduced a project of creating hayfields and pastures for cows in private sector on territories which were still contaminated by radionuclides long after Chernobyl accident. The project included 18 inhabited settlements in which there were stated the productions of milk containing radionuclides above admissible levels. The realization of the project aimed at reducing the transition of radionuclides from soil into plants of pastures due to application of mineral fertilizers, choice of grass mixtures and rational use of land. The content of 137Cs and 90Sr in milk became lower in 1.4-8.1 and 1.3-3.5 times respectively
