Interaction of uranyl(VI) with silicic acid

Description
The interaction of uranyl(VI) with silicic acid was investigated by a solvent extraction method. The equilibrium constant of the reaction UO22+ + Si(OH)4 = UO2OSi(OH)3+ + H+ was determined to be (3.6 ± 0.5)x10-3 in 6.7x10-2 M silicic axid and pH 3-4.5. The extraction behavior of uranyl(VI) was also studied from silicic acid-acetate medium. The results are discussed in relation to metal-silicate interaction and silica polymerization. (orig.)
