210Po in blood and urine of uranium mine workers in Yugoslavia

Description

Two groups of uranium miners were studied to determine the correlation between the concentrations of atmospheric radon to which they were exposed and the concentrations of Polonium-210 in their blood and urine. Radon exposures were of the order of 7.61±0.25×10−10 Ci/liter. The excretion of 210Po in urine was 1.03 pCi/liter for miners exposed 3 years, and was 1.63 oCi/liter for miners exposed for 10 to 12 years. For one group the concentrations of 210Po correlated with the radon exposures but for the other group the correlation was not statistically significant.
