Direct fabrication and characterization of 238PuO2 fuel pellets
Description
238PuO2 fuel pellets are used as the heat source in radioisotopic thermal generators which provide electric power for many space missions. An effort is underway in the Plutonium Experimental Facility of the Westinghouse Savannah River Laboratory to develop a simplified and safer fabrication process for 238PuO2 pellets (referred to as direct fabrication). Development activities for the direct fabrication and characterization of 238PuO2 pellets will be discussed
