Construction of an RFQ linac

Description
A small proton linac for multipurpose use is now under construction at the Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University. The linac consists of a cusp-field type ion source, a 2m-RFQ section and a 2m-Alvarez section which accelerates protons up to 7 MeV. The operating frequency is 433.3 MHz which makes the cavity size smaller than usual proton linacs. The RFQ cavity has been fabricated and tested at low power levels. A two-dimensional cutting process was used for the machining of the vane. The curvature of the vane top became constant but the machining became very easy. The preliminary results of the RF field measurement shows that the field distribution can be controlled to be flat by 24 tuners. (author)
