What can we learn from the next generation of experiments
Description
This chapter examines what is expected in the standard SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) model (the (3,2,1) model) and what are the crucial tests of the theory. Discusses alternatives to the standard model where they suggest different things that should be searched for. Extends the question beyond the (3,2,1) model and discusses GUT's and the alternatives/modifications necessary to avoid the hierarchy problem. Examines supersymmetric models, technicolor models and constituent models. Points out some of the exotica predicted in these models and the experimental searches for them. Discusses experimental prospects; the theoretical status of the standard model; strong interaction tests (is QCD correct.); tests of the SU(2) x U(1) standard model (the Fermion sector); the mass of toponium; the parameters of the 6 quark model; the boson sector; the scalar bosons; beyond the standard model; effective field theories; technicolor; supersymmetry and supersymmetric zoology; supersymmetric phenomenology (the 'ino sector); and the scalar sector. Presents discussions featuring Jovanovich, Ross, Herten and others. Bib
