A study of the emission spectrum of HF excited by electrons

  • 1. FOM-Instituut voor Atoom-en Molecuulfysica, Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Description

Radiative lifetimes have been measured for the HF+ A 2Σ+, γ' = 0-3 levels. They vary from 7.2 +- 0.7 μs for γ' = 0 to 5.1 +- 0.5 μs for the γ' = 3 level. This variation is related to that of the electronic transition moment. The second part of this work is concerned with dissociative excitation of HF by 0-2000 eV electrons. It has been found that excited hydrogen atoms are mainly formed by an optically allowed excitation process, while excited fluorine atoms are formed by an optically forbidden excitation process. This behaviour is explained. (Auth.)
