Verification of energy dependence of electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR) dosimeters

Description
This study was focused on the dependence of some EPR dosimetric materials under different electron energy range in order to identify those that could be suitable for low dose applications. The stopping power ratios for (Alanine, Magnesium formate, Potassium dithionate, Calcium sulfate, Barium sulphate, Lithium formate, Sodium carbonate, Strontium dithionate, Cesium dithionate and Ammonium formate) were calculated based on NIST-ESTAR program online database, which is the same as those tabulated in ICRU report 37, Xmudat software code was used to calculate the effective atomic number and density for each dosimeter. The results indicate that, EPR dosimeter with effective atomic number less than 16 could be suitable to be used at low dose applications with slightly correction to get the optimum value. The dosimeter with effective atomic number more than 16 showed large discrepancies in its values below 0.7 MeV and above 2 MeV, which indicate that in spite of the high sensitivity the dosimeter it might not be suitable to work at low dose range.
