Preparation of substituted Yttrium-Iron garnet by conventional ceramic technique and investigation of Indium substitution on saturation magnetization and Curie temperature

Description
In this research work substituted indium garnets (Y3Fe5-xInxO12),(x=0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4) were prepared by conventional ceramic technique. XRD patterns of prepared garnets show that the samples are all single phase with garnet structure. There is a shift in diffraction angles toward lower angles. This shows an increase in lattice parameters of garnet structure. Curie temperatures of the samples were measured by a LCR meter. The results show that the Curie temperature has been decreased gradually by increasing indium substitution. The reason for this decrease can be explained by substitution of nonmagnetic In3+ ions for magnetic Fe3+ ions. This ultimately weakens super exchanged forces, which are responsible for magnetic interactions in garnet structure. Hysteresis loops of the samples were obtained by vibrating sample magnetometers and increase in saturation magnetization is due to the substituted of nonmagnetic In3+ ions for magnetic Fe3+ ions in octahedral sites.
