Energy distribution of electrons ejected from a thin carbon foil by alpha particles and fission products

Description
Secondary electron spectra up to 3.5 keV electron energy arising from the passage of alpha particles and 252Cf fission products through a 2 μg/cm2 carbon foil are measured for a forward (420) and a backward (1380) angle of emission. The forward spectra induced by alpha-particles are compared to binary encounter calculations and to a gas target spectrum. Systematic differences in the shapes of the alpha particle and the fission product induced spectra are discussed. Total yields and mean energies of the secondary electrons are derived from the spectra. (orig.)

Die sekundaeren Elektronenspektren beim Durchgang von Alphateilchen und 252Cf-Spaltprodukten durch einen 2 μg/cm2-Kohlenstoffilm werden bis zu 3,5 keV fuer einen vorwaerts- (420) und rueckwaertsgerichteten (1380) Emissionswinkel gemessen. Die durch die Alphateilchen induzierten vorwaertsgerichteten Spektren werden mit Berechnungen binaerer Stoesse und mit einem Gastargetspektrum verglichen. Systematische Unterschiede in der Form der Alphateilchen und den durch Spaltprodukte induzierten Spektren werden diskutiert, und die Gesamtausbeute und mittlere Energie der sekundaeren Elektronen werden aus den Spektren abgeleitet.
