Search for B → K(ell)+(ell)- and B → K*(892)(ell)+(ell)-
Description
The authors present preliminary results from a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays B → K(ell)+(ell)- and B → K*(892)(ell)+(ell)- using a sample of 22.7 x 106 Υ(4S) → B(bar B) decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory. They have reconstructed the following final states: B+ → K+(ell)+(ell)-, B0 → K0(ell)+(ell)- (Ks0 → π+ π-), B+ → K*+(ell)+(ell)- (K*+ → Ks0π+), and B0 → K*0(ell)+(ell)- (K*0 → K+π-), where (ell)+(ell)- is either an e+e- or μ+μ- pair. They obtain the 90% C.L. upper limits Β(B → K(ell)+(ell)-) < 0.6 x 10-6 and Β(B → K*(ell)+(ell)-) < 2.5 x 10-6, close to the Standard Model predictions for these branching fractions
