Post-Fukushima severe accident research activities at NRC addressing near term task force recommendations - 15408
- 1. United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555 (United States)
Description
This paper provides an account of selected severe accident research activities carried out by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to address some of the New Term Task Force (NTTF) recommendations. Foremost among these research activities are filtered containment venting, hydrogen risk management, spent fuel pool safety, and Fukushima accident reconstruction. In particular, the paper summarizes the work on source term assessment of selected accident scenarios in representative boiling water reactor (BWR) plants with Mark-I and Mark-II containments, in support of the development of technical basis for filtered containment venting strategy
