Description

Between the Loire and Gironde rivers, three gulfs are widely opened on the Atlantic Ocean. They represent a 200 km long coast and an area of 1.000 square kilometres. Onshore, 500 square kilometres which can be flooded by salted water, are a brake for the economic development of the concerned districts (Loire-Atlantique, Vendee, Charente-Maritime). However, its seems possible to protect these gulfs by means of dykes which would create basins of tidal energy, and the price of these dykes could be paid by electric power production. This publication presents this project. It first states its feasibility, costs, social-economic impacts, and ecological impacts. It also addresses the relationship with the impacts of climatic change. Two versions of the same document are presented
