Measurement of the 1266 keV gamma branch in 31Si decay via neutron activation

Description

Small samples of single crystal silicon have been activated by irradiation with neutrons from the Cornell TRIGA reactor and counted on calibrated, high resolution gamma-ray spectrometers. Delayed photon spectroscopy has been used to observe the 1266 keV line, the decay of which was found to be in good agreement with the evaluated half-life value of 157.3 minutes for 3lSi. No other photons showing this half life were detected in these experimental Its intensity, in percent, was determined to be 0.050 ± 0.004 which is 29% lower than the value reported by Lyon and Manning. Details of the experiment and the method of analysis will be presented
