Thermal motion of a solvated electron in ammonia and broadening of its optical spectrum

Description
The Bogolyubov-Tyablikov method of canonical transformation of coordinates is formulated for a strong-coupled system of a particle and a field, taking into account rigorous fulfillment of the conservation laws. Separation of variables is carried out for the coordinates describing the translational degrees of freedom and the electron oscillations in a polarization well. The equations obtained for the electronic states explicitly depend on the velocity of the quasi-particle as a whole. The frequency of optical transition is calculated for the solvated electron in ammonia, and an estimate is made for the thermal-induced spectral bandwidth. The temperature coefficient is determined for the width of the optical spectrum. 13 refs
