Ion beam fusion
Description
The author examines the relative merits of ion beam and laser driven ICF, the physics of the transport and focusing of intense ion beams and the implications of this for light ion and heavy ion drivers in terms of the required ion energies and beam currents necessary to deliver the correct amount of energy and power on target. He examines the present understanding of the ion-plasma interaction and looks at the possible candidates for light ion and heavy ion drivers. He concludes by looking at the future plans for ion beam fusion and critical experiments which must be performed
