From Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) to Dose-guided radiation therapy (DGRT)

Description

Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is presently based on a rigid registration of anatomic structures (either prostatic in case of a prostatic irradiation, or bony in case of ORL sphere irradiation). But, because of anatomic deformations, this practice does not allow the supplied/cumulative dose to be quantified by means of a simple addition. In both cases (prostatic and ORL irradiation), the authors report the generation of cumulative dose-volume histograms and their comparison with planned dose-volume histograms. This leads to dose-guided radiation therapy approach which is an optimization of the image-guided radiation therapy. Short communication
