Radiometric data management in nuclear emergencies in Italy

  • 1. National Environmental Protection Agency (ANPA), Rome (Italy)
  • 2. National Institute for Health, Rome (Italy)

Description

Italy, like many other European countries, has been addressing the problems connected with the management of radiological emergencies, in order to minimise the consequences of a nuclear accident causing a contamination involving a large territorial area. In such situations, the competent national authority, would take advantage of support provided by different structures (decision-making, technical, operative) institutionally designated with the aim of adopting eventual countermeasures. The technical structure, is the Centre for Elaboration and Evaluation of Data (CEVaD). CEVaD has drafted a technical operating manual in which are identified relevant radiometric data which play a key role in producing information about the distribution of contamination over national territory in each stage of emergency. The Emergency Centre has developed a system (SIGEDRA) that acquires, validates, stores and makes such data available to CEVaD for consultation, interpretation and evaluation. SIGEDRA is a modular system having various functions and various data stored on different databases. (author)
