Experimental study on erosion behavior of structure by high-temperature molten materials jet

Description

As a part of the research and development on hypothetical severe accidents in LMFBRs, a series of out-of-pile experiments was performed to investigate the thermal interactions between a molten materials jet and the structures in the MELT-II facility. From this study, it was shown that the erosion behavior of the structures is significantly affected by the crust of oxide material or the molten layer of structure formed at the jet-structure interface. An evaluation model for the erosion rate of a structure was formulated considering these effects. (author)
