Description

Reference solutions for the OECD 3D radiation transport benchmarks for a simple geometry with a void duct are presented. For the pure absorber case, reference solutions (6 digit exact) have been obtained by direct quadrature. Also, very accurate results (accuracy 0.1%) have been produced with the discrete-ordinates, long-characteristics, combinatorial-geometry code MCCG3D. For the 50%-scattering case, a preprocessing and postprocessing technique has been used to derive reference solutions (accuracy 1%) with MCCG3D and with the discrete-ordinates, nodal and characteristics code IDT. Pre and post processing have been done with high accurate, converged MCCG3D calculations. In the preprocessing phase, MCCG3D is used to estimate a first collision source to be used with either MCCG3D or IDT. In the postprocessing step, point fluxes are computed with MCCG3D from region averaged values and added to uncollided fluxes also obtained with MCCG3D. Complete results for all benchmark cases are given for the pure absorber case and for the third problem for the 50%-scattering case. (author)
