Simulation of adiabatic compression plasma
Description
A system of 1-D transport codes has been developed for studying the discharge processes of compressional tokamak plasma in the Tuman-2, Tosca, and STP-3 devices. The code includes the effects of neutrals and impurity radiation. The model provides reasonably good fits of the main data from the experiments of Tosca and Tuman-2. The computational predictions for the STP-3 device are also presented. The computed results show that the average ion temperature of the STP-3 discharge with compression is about twice the value without compression. The higher the Ohmic heating power, the slower the optimum compression time becomes. (author)
