Investigation of Sc(3) state in nonaqueous solutions by the 45Sc NMR method of high permission

Description

The ScCl3 + CH3CN and ScCl3 + KNCS + CH3CN solutions have been studied by a high-resolution NMR 45Sc method. It has been estimated that in acetonitrile solutions, with competing ligands of Cl- and NCS- being available, hexacoordination Sc(3) complexes of various compositions are formed, and solvent molecules also take part in formation of the coordination sphere of scandium. Chemical shifts in NMR 45Sc signals depend linearly on the number of chlor- or NCS- ions bound to scandium(3). This made it possible to determine the value of chemical shifts in signals of all 28 potential complexes formed in a system with three competing ligands
