Reactivity of free inorganic radicals in relation to plutonium (3) in aqueous solutions
Description
The method of pulsed radyolysis (5 MeV electron energy, 2.5 μs pulse duration) is used to study the kinetics of HSO4+, NO3+, Cl2-, Br2- reations with Pu(3) ions in concentrated aqueous solutions of corresponding acids. It is shown that the introduction of Pu(3) ions into solutions facilitates the disappearance of radicals which are formed during radiolysis, and in cases of rather high ion concentrations the kinetic order of the reaction becomes pseudofirst. Rate constants of the pseudofirst order reactions are proportional to Pu(3) ion concentration. the reactivity of radicals in the process of monoelectron Pu(3) oxidation decreases in the series HSO4+ > NO3+ > Cl2- → Br2-
