Reduction and resource recycling of high-level radioactive wastes through nuclear transmutation. Overview and current progress
- 1. Japan Science and Technology Agency, Kawaguchi, Saitama (Japan)
Description
The high-level radioactive wastes (HLW) in a spent fuel reprocessing plant contain Minor actinides (MAs) and long-lived fission products (LLFPs). The aim of this program is to propose a new transmutation path for LLFPs to convert to short-lived nuclides or stable ones without isotope separation, and a reuse path to reduce amount of HLW and recycle resource materials as well. This paper outlines the current progress such as feasibility of reduce of HLW and recycle scheme for LLFPs with the even/odd separation method and a transmutation path with the proposed new accelerator system.
