Neutron flow between nuclei as the principal enhancement mechanism in heavy-ion subbarrier fusion
Description
The observed enhanced cross sections for heavy-ion fusion are interpreted with a model in which the near barrier cross sections are dominated by neck formation initiated by neutron flow between the colliding nuclei. The collective properties of the colliding nuclei are then interpreted as a modulation of the thresholds for neck formation and dominate the cross sections in the region far below the barrier.
