Study of the reaction 34S(d(pol),p)35S with vector-polarized deuterons
Description
Angular distributions of vector analyzing power and cross section for the reaction 34S(d(pol),p)35S have been measured at a deuteron energy of 11.8 MeV. The data are compared to DWBA calculations. The optical-potential parameters for the deuteron channel were obtained (i) by fitting elastic deuteron scattering, and (ii) by using the adiabatic model approach by Johnson and Soper. The parameters for the proton channel were calculated from the empirical formulae of Becchetti and Greenlees and of Perey and Perey. Angular distributions of vector analyzing power and cross section result in unambiguous lsub(n) and jsup(π) assignments for 12 states in 35S up to 5.058 MeV excitation energy. Previously known lsub(n) and jsup(π)-values are confirmed by these assignments. Effects of the deuteron d-state and compound nuclear contributions to cross section and analyzing power are discussed. Spectroscopic factors for the states in 35S have been extracted and are compared to those obtained by other workers. (Auth.)
