Models of the Pomeron: A study of pp elastic scattering in impact-parameter space
Description
Various models for the Pomeron in impact-parameter space are considered. Since the corresponding b-space profiles are very similar, we discriminate between the alternatives using energy dependence. Regge-cut models differ considerably from geometrical-scaling models in the shape and s dependence of the nonabsorptive part of the amplitude. We construct an explicitly crossing-even Pomeron amplitude, exhibiting approximate geometrical scaling, in good agreement with Fermilab and CERN ISR pp elastic data. We predict new dips in the differential cross sections at -t approx. = 6, 10, 18 (GeV/c)2 at 100 GeV/c, which are masked by growth in the nonabsorptive amplitude at ISR energies
