Experience in the radioactive isotopes application for measuring of the diesel motors' wear

Description

Proceeding from the possible methods of activation and marking of machine parts subject to wear, data are given on the fact that the best results of testing on stand and in isotopic laboratory with neutron activation and of exploitation testing have been obained with surface activation by the fact positively charged particles. For planning conducting of testings, great significance has the problem what degree of wear it has to expect. To answer this question before conducting an experiment is possible only in rare cases but it is possible to pick out two cases: new machine parts and machine parts subjected to running in, are tested for wear. In the course of running in, wear of an engine is several times greater than the degree of wear, accured during the regular exploitation. For these two cases, on the concrete examples, possibilities are demonstrated of the radioactive methods of measurement of wear. Because application of radioactive isotopes has some negative features, preventing from the practical application of this method, data of tests are stated of measuring the degree of wear by the method of activation of the nonactive isotopic indicators as well as the data on the analysis of the wear particles, contained in the engine lubricating oil by the method of roentgen-fluorescent analysis
