Cooperation of Czechoslovak colleges and universities with the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research in research projects JASNAPP and SPIN

Description

Information is presented on the cooperation of Czechoslovak colleges and universities with the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research on two research projects implemented in Czechoslovakia and at JINR called JASNAPP (nuclear spectroscopy on a proton beam) and SPIN (study of the decay of oriented short-lived nuclei using the hyperfine interaction effect at temperatures around 10 mK). The JASNAPP facility is designed primarily for neutron-deficient nuclei obtained by spallation with neutrons accelerated using the LJP JINR cyclotron. In the SPIN facility, the operating temperature around 10 mK is achieved by the dissolution of 3He isotopes in 4He. Magnetic hyperfine intercation is achieved using the existence of internal magnetic fields of ferromagnetic substances excited with the relatively weak magnetic field of superconducting solenoid. Radioactive samples are obtained by means of the JASNAPP facility. The experiments are reviewed with oriented radioactive nuclei conducted on the SPIN facility. (S.P.)
