Results of a study in the chamber nuclear reactor with gaseous fuel

Methods are described of affecting the flow and turbulent mixing in the reactor chamber. Currently, the effects of initial perturbations and the initial velocity profile on the transition of the flow to turbulence and on the mixing are being studied. The initial velocity profile in coaxial flows is shaped by means of honeycombs and by changing the inlet channel configuration. In honeycombs, the cell dimensions and the thickness of partitions are changed. A powerful magnetic field can be used for affecting turbulence and suppressing natural convection. Graphs are presented showing the decay of lattice turbulence in liquid metals in a magnetic field, the decrease in the resistance factor in liquid metal flow through a pipe in a longitudinal magnetic field and the effect of the field on liquid metal and plasma flows whose mixing is rapidly reduced. Theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement. The application of a magnetic field has the disadvantage of being inefficient at temperatures below 10,000 K and of the inevitable existence of wall sections intersected by magnetic flux lines. Their cooling is therefore difficult. A good knowledge of operating media is a prerequisite for research and hydrodynamic calculations. Experimental values and the results of calculations are given of the uranium plasma absorption coefficient as is the absorption coefficient of a potassium-helium mixture at temperatures of 700 to 900 K, and the absorption coefficient in dependence on radiation frequency for hydrogen with a blackening potassium admixture.
