A study of the 3D modeling method using ortho-CT part 1. Automation and its size accuracy of model construction

We have previously developed a method of 3D construction by tracing the contours of an Ortho-CT image, and applied it to the finite element method. However, this method takes time for modeling and relies on the examiner's shape recognition ability, causing variation in the reproducibility of shape recognition among different examiners. In this connection, we have developed a conversion algorithm aimed at reducing construction time and improving reproducibility, using automatic conversion of Ortho-CT data into a 3D model through direct visualization. The present study was designed to confirm the size accuracy of the 3D model produced by this automatic conversion procedure, and the following results were obtained. The algorithm allowed automatic construction of 3D models from Ortho-CT data. There was no statistically significant difference between diameter measurements of the constructed 3D. (author)
