Evaluation of primary feed and bleed cooling capability of PWR systems
Description
A simple theoretical approach is proposed to demonstrate the capability of a PWR system to undergo feed and bleed cooling. Using a two-node model and solving the energy and mass balance equations by a simulation language, the transient result of the system's pressure, temperature, and inventory can be obtained. By varying the controlling bands for feed (normally the high pressure injection flow) and bleed (opening or closure of the power operated relief valve), the ability of a PWR to achieve stable cooldown can be evaluated. Guidance can then be provided in the unit's operating procedure to achieve optimal feed and bleed cooling
