Study of main capabilities of the EMCal PHENIX alternative calibration and monitoring systems

Description

The alternative optical monitoring systems designed for controlling the amplification (transformation) coefficients stability in the EMCal comprehensive amplitude analysis system are presented. The nitrogen and the light emitting diodes are chosen to be the major light source. As main reference elements to control the light source intensity changes a biplanar vacuum photodiode have been used. An opportunity to use the standard EMCal module detecting cosmic muons as a reference element has been considered. A laser monitoring system using a plastic UV-fiber allows one to simulate electromagnetic shower longitudinal distribution inside the module and thereby to carry out an active control of scintillators and WLS-fibers performances. 6 refs., 13 figs., 2 tabs
