Harmonic analysis of the line profiles of an oblique rotator

  • 1. Department of Astronomy, University of Western Ontario

Description

A method of determining the parameters of the oblique-rotator model from observed line profiles is presented. Advantages and disadvantages of this procedure compared with the harmonic analysis method described by Deutsch are discussed. To illustrate the method, analyses have been carried out on some lines in the spectrum of a2 CYn. The results are discussed briefly. It appears that the method works, and should provide better results when more accurate data are available. Subject headings: line profiles - magnetic stars - peculiar A stars
