Description
The acoustic phonon properties of YS, LaS and CeSe have been studied by using breathing shell models (BSM) which includes breathing motion of electrons of the rare earth atoms due to f-d hybridization. The phonon dispersion curves calculated from present model agree with the measured data. We discuss the significance of this approach in predicting the phonon dispersion curves of these compounds and examine the role of electron-phonon interactions. (author)
