Neutron irradiation damage in molybdenum

Abstract In order to characterize more completely defect structures typical of high dose neutron irradiation experiments, the determination of perfect dislocation loop geometry, as defined by the direction and sese of the Burgers vector b and the loop plane normal n, has been re-examined. The practical aspects of electron diffraction contrast experiments leading to definitions of these vectors have been considered. It has been shown that the nature of a relatively high proportion of dislocation loops which constitute a structure typical of that studied in Part II can confidently be assessed. In particluar, loops falling into a so-called intermediate size range (100 to 500 Å diameter) can satisfactorily be characterized and thus a situation approached where the experimental techniques of small cluster analysis and large loop analysis are effectively joined.
